I just have to show

I can't resist any more, I have to show you at least a little preview of the bag I have knit and felt for my pal. It shrank a bit more then I thought it would, but it is still fine for a sock project.
That's just my second try with the magic of felting and I really love the results.

Now I am done with the swap package except for the pattern and the knitting needles - and of course a few little extras.

I just heard that I passed the parseltongue test yesterday!!!

I'm so excited and my parents will be pleased too...

Now I'm off again, need to do some felting for the swap...

Parseltongue

wow, I think I just managed to pass my first test in Parseltongue, here is the solution:

In Slytherin you'll make
your real friends,
Those cunning folk use any
means
To achieve their ends.

There is no good and evil, there is only power and
those too weak to seek it.

still busy

I'm sorry that I have been so quiet, but I'm still busy with classes, getting to know people and of course swap package planning...

I'm almost done with the bag now, have dyed some sock yarn which is almost dry, so I did even more progress with the swap.

Hopefully, I will find more time to write during the next days, now I have to go to bed before I fall asleep in front of this computer thing...

I'm so busy

What a busy week, I'm glad the week is over and the weekend is coming. Getting used again to classes after vacations was tough but fun and I had so many other thing to do for the swap, I rarely had time to relax.

But I have almost everything I need for my pal:
- yarn is dyed
- stitch markers are done
- I started knitting the bag
- some little extras found their way to me

Now I just need to decide about a pattern, get some knitting needles and finish knitting. That's so not like me, usually I tend to finish things on last minute and this time I seem to be done before the swap is half way through.

Now I'm going to relax and spend a nice, quiet weekend.

stitch markers

I just decided to try my hands at making stitch markers for my pal instead of buying them. I really don't know why I did not try it before, it is not that complicated and I'm pleased with the results. From now on, I will definitely make a set for every swap package I have to plan.

Making beautiful things with my own hands is so rewarding, I just love to see how things grow into something unique. Even if others use the same supplies or patterns, the results will always be different, that's what fascinates me about crafts. It's almost like magic, just without spells and wands - if you don't count knitting needles as wands.

I had fun today

Today, we had classes about dyeing yarns with magic and potions and as I already practised it a bit, I managed to create exactly what I had in mind. I just love when all those spells and potions turn a simple, natural wool into something beautiful and colorful. Hopefully, my pal Narcissa Bladvak will like the colors I chose for her bag, but as I know she doesn't like too bright Hufflepuff colors that look like a bumblebee, so I think she will be fine with them.

Of course I can't show it to you yet, as I don't want to spoil the surprise for Narcissa, but I'm sure I will post a tiny preview as soon as the yarn is dry and I started to knit.

Now I'm curious, how many of you love to dye yarn too, so please take the survey above.

I can't believe it...

Today was the first real day of classes and I was sick and had to be in the infirmary. I still can't believe it, but I'm glad I'm back to the Slytherin Common Room now and can attend classes tomorrow.

While I was laying in the infirmary, I got all students blogs magically linked to the sidebar, I hope I did not forget anyone. As I wasn't even allowed to knit, that was the only thing I could do.

knitting fun

Finally my sweater is making progress, the body is almost done and I can go on to the sleeves with an intriguing cable pattern. And the alpaca yarn I'm using is so soft and warm, it's a pity that the sweater will be finished in time for spring to be put away until next winter. But knitting it is fun, no matter when I will be able to wear it.

Besides, I'm knitting a pair of toddler socks in Slytherin colors, I'm sure my little brother will be a Slytherin too when he is grown up.

Now I'm thinking about teaching myself how to make stitch markers, then I could make the markers for my swap pal myself. But I'm not sure if I will find the time for yet another craft, knitting, dyeing and crochet already take a lot of time. I will tell you if I make a decision about this.

Oh, and I have to look for a sock pattern for my pal, I don't have the slightest idea right now. Perhaps I should browse her blog a bit more, to find out what she might like.

Wow, that late already? I have to hurry to class now or I will be late for Potions....

Almost all houses...

... are involved in the Sock kit swap for me. I'm spoiling a Hufflepuff called Narcissa Bladvak and my spoiler is a Ravenclaw. It's so great, that the times of House rivalry are over and we can get to know and like even more students here.

I already know what bag to make and will buy the yarn soon, that will give me enough time for dyeing and knitting. And the sockyarn will be handdyed too in the same colors. I just love to do a little magic with colors and turn some boring yarn into something colorful and beautiful.

And here is a list of the classes this year, I made everything bold that I'm gonna take:

Hogwarts Happenings
Course Listing
Ancient Runes
Arithmancy
Astronomy
Care of Magical Creatures
Charms
Defense Against the Dark Arts
Divination
Flying
Enchanted Kit Planning
Herbology
History of Magic
Magic in Threadwork and Weaving
Muggle Studies
Potions
Transfiguration

Swap

We are supposed to swap a secret sock kit with another student and I just got my assignment: I'm supposed to send something to a girl from Hufflepuff...

That means some research about what she likes and what she doesn't like, but it sounds like a lot of fun. And I will get some knitting done for her, as a handmade knitting project bag will be part of the swap. I think I already know what to knit, I just need the right yarn in yellow and black.

I hope everybody else is just as excited about the new year and the swap as I am, I'm determined to have lots and lots of fun - and of course I will learn a lot (you never know if my parents might read this)

Classes starting soon

I'm so excited, back at Hogwarts for the second year. Classes will start soon, for now I have to sort all my things and get to know the new people here in Slytherin.

See you all soon, I'm busy for now
